Xuangzhong Monastery is one of the three grand Buddhist altars. The Pure Land Sect of Buddhism was introduced form here to Japan during the Southern Song Dynasty. Thus is was regarded as the ancestral Temple by the 7 million Japanese followers. Every year Japanese pilgrims flood in paying homage. Halls of Ming and Qing Dynasties are neatly laid out. Peony, bamboo, Chinese pepper and fruit trees are planted in the tranquil courtyard.
