Xiezhou is a small
town known for its Temple of Guan YU. Enshrined here is Guan Yu, a general of the State
Shu in the Three Kingdoms Period(220-280) Xiezhou is his birthplace. After the death of
the general, practically all Chinese emperors in later dynasties revered him as the God of
War for a variety of reasons. A temple was erected by imperial decree to honour the man
who was appointed to deity status. The temple was built in imitation of the imperial
palace. The Spring and Autumn Tower, the tallest building, serves as Guan Yu's study.
Inside the Sword Building is displayed a replica of a 41-kilogramme broad sword carved
with green dragon which was Gun Yu's weapon.
