Visit the Underground Cave Dwellings.
Few people have heard about the underground cave dwellings. These cave homes, which are called "cave dwellings in a cell courtyard" are few in number and most of them have been replaced by brick houses built by farmers who are now better off . The best sunken courtyard cave homes are to be found in Pinglu County. A square pit measuring form 10 to 30 each side is dug into the ground. They are on average six to seven metres deep, but some of them may be as deep as 12 metres. Caves are them dug into the four walls of the cell, some of them being designed as a bedroom, others as living rooms or storerooms. Here is the best place to know the natural conditions and to experience social customs of the Loess Plateau.
